Part 2 is the next 5000 words of Ali's supernatural adventure as she tries to make sense of the Chieftain's prophetic promise and learn more about her new friends. Ali has no idea what's in store for her on the mountaintop; much like the surprise that was waiting for her in Paris.
Here's a sample:
Ali could not avoid Chas' attention. He sweetly and awkwardly tried to attend to her every need falling over himself in the process. They had only met an hour earlier, and Ali had forgotten to wear her mythical rainbow-hued Turn Back Oh Man headband designed to warn all of the unfairer sex to steer clear of this broken child. Her first-ever trip to Paris, solo no less, to surprise Jacob had accomplished quite the opposite.
The redeye from New York was rough. Despite her best planning pre-Covid World, Alicia ended up in a middle seat, trapping herself between a sullen and sweaty fellow in a wrinkled olive blazer and a full-figured, over-spritzed matron whose "nude" Spanx protruded visibly beyond her red flowery taffeta blouse. Before she had buckled herself in, "Edwina" announced that she was terrified of flying to all passengers within spitting distance. Edwina then proceeded to carry on sporadic monologues into thin air fretting about her husband. He was sitting elsewhere on the plane.
Alicia squeezed the rising dread back into her belly and ran her tongue across her teeth. Do I look like that person dying to hear your story? she thought. Where's her husband, and can we switch? She looked around. Should she suggest it? What if it didn't work and was perceived as an invitation to just chat all flight long. Maybe she could just squint her eyes and emit a low-level grumbling hum like the guy next to her. For a moment, she closed her eyes which felt really weird. Inevitably, three minutes after takeoff, Edwina launched her merciless interrogation.
"Why is such a young girl like you traveling to Paris alone?"
