Part 2 is the next 3400 words of Willow Reade's desperate mission to save her doctoral thesis.....and Joshua's career at Cambridge . She has arrived in Scotland, on a mission to convince a reputed curmudgeon to let her study the private papers of Sir Walter Scott.
Here's a sample:
The bright blue ScotRail train rumbled to a stop on the tick of Wednesday noon at Melrose station. Willow awakened from the catnap that had overtaken her. The warmth of her mother’s honey oat sherpa maxi combined with the gentle rocking of the carriage on the five-hour ride from London had lulled her to sleep. She stood and stretched. She adjusted her black leather sling bag still securely slung under her left arm. Willow intently surveyed the bright glass and grey steel train station for a lavatory. A quick stop and a dab of gardenia body spray, and she would be ready to launch her quest.
This Dalrymple fellow had the original manuscript of Sir Walter Scotts' first love poem, written at age 19 and never published. Willow would convince the man to allow her to examine it; She had to. She would find a way.
Pedestrians were few, and Willow easily gathered her travel bag and shuffled quickly along to her first destination. That familiar nervous excitement arose just like it did just before finals or on the opening day of classes. This day was a bit different, for there was far more at stake, and she must succeed in her mission or….who know’s what would happen. She just needed to accomplish her mission. She needed evidence to submit the addendum to her dissertation and correct Joshua’s terrible mistake.
